JESSICA KNIBB .. Visual Artist

Jessica Knibb

Visual Artist, Galway, Ireland

I am a visual artist whose practice explores the concepts of story-telling.

“A tale which holdeth children from play, and old men from the chimney-corner”
Sir Philip Sidney (1554 – 1586)

“My work centres on the realm of storytelling and make-believe; unveiling a side of us that journeys to a distant chimera and traverses its hidden depths. A phenomenon that takes place each night as we sleep.”
- Jessica Knibb

Jessica has recently completed her B.A. Honours degree in Fine Art, in Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork. Her practice as a visual artist has progressed over the past five years to include drawing, installation and sculpture. Her medium of choice is paper and print, and conveys her strong interest in the history and art of Eastern culture, in particular, the Japanese tradition of paper-folding.
In her practice she melds these ancient Eastern traditions into our current Western culture, and invites the viewer to take a moment’s rest from the hectic pace of life to pause and consider.
Elements of storytelling and make-believe enter her work, as does her interest in the innocence of childhood and the unbounded ability that children possess in creating fictitious worlds and characters in an escape from reality. Her research in this department comes from much observation of children at play and a diploma in Child Psychology.
